Bespoke Cocktails

Broaden the drinks menu offered at your event. If its an intimate party, have a go at our Bespoke Cocktail Package. We’ll bring down our mobile bar including a whole bunch of fresh fruits, herbs, juices and liquor. There will be no menu and each drink will be crafted based on our bartenders interaction with your guests. It will usually start with some questions about their palate, preference of any ingredients and liquor. From there we’ll take your guests on a journey till the event ends. The exciting part for both us and the guests is that we get to make drinks catered for everyone.

Mobile Bar and Customized Cocktails

In most cases, there are themes for the event, in which we will craft a menu of cocktails specifically to suit your theme. It could be about anything really, a movie, a book or a holiday and so on. For example, the above cocktails were done for Osim’s uDiva launch. The theme was set around love, where we incorporated some elements in one of the cocktails name “Love at 1st Sip” and the ingredients, which includes rose. The thematic cocktail creation is the part we love the most, we usually end up with lots of wacky ideas for the ingredients, garnish and the names. Once the dust has settled, we will select the most fitting ones and arrange a tasting session with you to make sure everything is perfect for your event. Fast forward to the day of your event, just like any of our clients, we’ll bring our mobile bar down, set it up and serve the drinks that we have created for your event.

New staffs were first taught menu drinks, followed by customer interactions pre and post ordering. The second stage will then be creating the house cocktails and tasting the individual ingredients in it. Once Louis or Jo the head bartenders for the two bars decide that they are ready, they will be introduced to the third stage which would be to create drinks off the menu, with inspirations coming from the interactions with the customers. Hopscotch Bar’s Farewell Party

April 15th was a rather special night for many of us from the Hopscotch and Mixes from Mars family. After a run of 31 months, we had to call it a day as the Ministry of Law would be taking over the premise by the end of April.

Hopscotch was opened on the 11th of September in 2014 looking to serve up locally inspired cocktails. It’s been a fun ride with the crew that we’ve been working with, whipping up some amazing cocktails and hosting the craziest parties in our courtyard. When we first started out, Hopscotch was meant to be a project that would last about a year as Red Dot Traffic Building would be taken over by the government just as our lease ended. Alas, through some unforeseen circumstances, our lease got extended a few more times until April of this year. Imagine the number of times we had to send our “Closing Soon” press release, a little similar to that random shop in the neighborhood which is always closing soon but never does.

The farewell party started on the 16th February, also known as the 2nd Last Party. It also featured Jo’s cocktail, “Remembering Red Dot”. It consisted of Sailor Jerry’s Spiced Rum, Indian Mango Puree, Ginger Flower, Lemongrass Cordial, Calamansi, Torched Coconut Husk and Freshly Grated Summer Truffle. It was a tiki styled drink reminiscent of times at the beach and topped with extravagance, Jo really went all out for the party. Fiji also sponsored Hopscotch with their artisan water to keep the guests hydrated throughout the night. With live performances by our regular singers Iris and the dynamic duo Cynthia and Linus, the crowd were serenaded while enjoying their tipples. Bryan, our host for the night played games with some of the guests, with the winners getting a bottle of champagne! Post 11pm was where everyone got hyped up by our very own DJ Sunny and Jam! The guests definitely enjoyed themselves, and everyone including the staffs were looking forward to the last party!

Fast forward to a week before closing, we held a party called Viva La Diva featuring some of Singapore’s best female vocalists. After their set, it was open mic which  many people took part in. The Miss Singapore Pageant International team was also on site to scout out contestants for their upcoming pageant. With the conclusion of this party, it set in motion a week of farewell celebrations from our regulars. Those that couldn’t attend our last night came in droves on the weekdays and drank like they never did. While the bar team was busy preparing for the big day, the Mixes from Mars team helped out for the setup, which included the lights, sound systems, projector, tables and chairs.

Reservations were mounting up so fast that we blocked it days before our last party as there were no longer any available seats. On the eve of the party, we managed to get Pacific Coffee’s space as they had moved out the week before. That opened up more seating areas that could sit more guests. Additionally Closer.sg provided a photo booth which gave the guests an instant print! The night begun with guests streaming in slightly before 8pm while we were still having team briefings. It soon became a full on slam. Cynthia and Linus once again provided us with aural entertainment as the night passed. We were all enjoying ourselves, both guests and staffs, amidst all the merry making and shots. Slightly after 12am was when most of the initial guests started leaving, which led us to our 2nd wave of  slam! As other bars hit closing time, Hopscotch was slowly filled with our friends from the industry. They came for the post-work drinks, for the party, for the dancing and most important of all to bid us farewell. They conquered the whole courtyard as DJ Sunny, Jam and Lester pumped the crowd up with dance hits from the past and the present. It was about 4am when most of them started to stream out, which also started an impromptu open mic. Cynthia, Linus and Bryan once again took up positions and invited guests to come sing along. The last song was played at about 6am, it was an extended version of “Don’t Look Back in Anger” by Oasis. Extended because of the crowd’s heartwarming singalong and because of the trio’s emotional tribute in this very song. Cynthia was in tears midway and couldn’t continue just as it reached the climax, which was the last line of the song. Everyone including the staffs stopped whatever they were doing and watched her with bated breaths.

Pause. She looks around and takes in the atmosphere.

And just like that, as the sun rose, our farewell party came to an end. Goodbyes were said and hugs were given. A special thanks to all the guests who attended the party, the staffs who helped out and the amazing bands and DJ that helped entertained the crowd. It has been a pleasure making everyone’s night through this two years and we hope to do so in the near future! Hopscotch will be temporarily closed while we source for a new location, we’ll keep you updated when a space has been found. An Epic 18th Birthday Bash!

Turning 18 is a big deal in Singapore. Seen as an adult in the eyes of the law and more importantly, in our opinion, legal to drink. We had the opportunity to organize a party to celebrate our client turning 18! The requirement was quite simple, just go all out.

The location of the party was in our client’s place, a private compound which was quite spacious. We had a lot of room to plan where the assorted activities could be held. First up was the main area.  It was where the food, drinks and dance floor were located. We first laid out the high tables and high stools at the back of the room near the food and bar area. It was to provide the guests with adequate area to enjoy the various offerings of the night. At the front of the main area was the dance floor, right in front of the DJ. The DJ with his setup was flanked by 2 speakers, providing the guests with EDM tracks through the night. Surrounding the room were mood lightings and moving lights, accompanying the DJ’s music. Additionally the tables were decorated with not only the standard menus, but also candles and jars of flowers to add to the mood.

At the second main area, we had the live band area which we added high tables and stools behind, with the band positioned in front serenading the crowd. We also set up beam lights and moving lights which were focused on the band as they were the other entertainers for the night. It was also the cake cutting area, hence the lightings to help setup for the pictures taken by the photographers!

The third area was the welcome area. Situated near the main door, it was a huge space which was turned into a photo shoot area. A backdrop of balloons were placed which the birthday girl took photos with her guests. At the nearby corridor passageway, we laid down rose petals on the side with candles to illuminate the pathway as the house would be dimly lit for the party.

Dinner for the day was a customized menu created up by Divine Palate which involved some premium ingredients including caviar! They were also able to utilize the island kitchen to do a live demonstration of them cooking. The food was exceptional and we are looking forward to the next time we work with them to experience their other creations!

Cocktails as usual were done by us where we customized two different drinks for her. The first was Violet Regal where it included Blackcurrant, Lychee, Yuzu and Gin which was garnished with flower petals and lychee spheres. The colors were of the drink, a deep violet hue suited the color theme of the party. The next drink was the Barely Legal which included Passionfruit, Brown Sugar, Lim, Mint, Club Soda and Rum. It is a twist of the classic Mojito, with the current one giving it a  slightly sour kick. Our client also provided us with champagnes and wines to serve to her guests.

It was an awesome party which the Mixes from Mars team was proud to be a part of. Our most sincere thanks to our client for having us and to our partners for working together to create such a beautiful birthday party. We are already looking forward to the next birthday bash to organize, till next time, cheers!

Last month, Fossil Singapore came to us and asked if we could come up with some drinks for their product launch. The product involved was their Fossil Q Smartwatches. The drinks had to keep to the theme of orange and yellow while also being mocktails as the event was held in public for their customers.

We came up with the Q Aspro which was on the sour side and consisted of mango, freshly squeezed lemon juice, yuzu and berries air. Berries Air involved berries tea mixes with stabilizers, then bubbled up with a pump to produce the Air. It gives a different dimension to the drink as people will get the light taste of the tea before reaching the mocktail itself. The idea came from our experiments with molecular mixology about 2 years ago and we have been using it in some of our cocktails ever since.

The secondary drink was the Q Dolce, which is the sweeter of the 2 mocktails and consisted of freshly squeezed orange juice, vanilla, passion fruit topped with soda water. It is then garnished with lychee spheres.

Our mocktails were served at MBS and JEM’s Fossil’s stores and the crowd was quite good for both days! We are looking forward to working with the Fossil team again to come up with more tipple for their products!

Singapore Grand Prix F1

Last weekend on the 16th to the 18th, we were invited to shake up some cocktails for the F1 period. It was also the 2nd time this year that Singapore Grand Prix has engaged us, the first being their corporate event. For this event, we were situated at the Sky Suites in Sky Bar 3, which was near Pit Straight.

The view from our bar was beautiful. The weather was generally good as service was during the night, we were also thankful that there was no torrential downpour. The guests there were mostly corporate clients and customers that were invited to enjoy the race. Service was pretty busy come night time, maybe it was due to the weather hence the need to quench their thirst!

We designed five cocktails which were based on the theme of F1 being in Singapore. The cocktails were the Arab Street, Pit Haven, Hot Wheels, Burnout and Victory Lap. 2 more shots were also provided, the Ondeh Ondeh and Bandung shooters.

Usually the guests at F1 would stick to the standard beer and champagne, but the Arab Street and the local flavored shots made them step out of their comfort zone. Arab Street was first conceived at our bar, Hopscotch as a tribute to the history-rich area. It is made up of Gin, Homemade Pomegranate Syrup, Saffron Rose Water, Apple Juice and Citrus. It is then garnished with Lemon and Rose Water with Dry Ice for the smell and visual appeal, and a Cotton Candy on the side for a little sweet snack to complement the drink. This cocktail takes the pole position for crowd favorites but taking 2nd and 3rd place were the two shots we provided, Bandung and Ondeh Ondeh. They were medium in strength and tasty enough to keep the guests coming back for more. What better way to introduce Singapore to the many international guests at F1 then our very own cocktails with a local twist!

All in all, this edition of F1 has been very fun and it provided a good learning experience for all of us. Explaining what Bandung and Ondeh Ondeh is to the guests and teaching them how to pronounce it has to be one of our most enjoyable moment during this event. We have also mastered the art of lip reading due to the sheer noise the F1 cars make. We would like to congratulate the Nico Rosberg and the Mercedes team for taking 1st place, good luck on the next race. Thanks to Singapore Grand Prix for engaging us, we hope to work with your amazing team again. Have a great week ahead everyone!

Last week, we hired an intern that will be assisting us with daily office operations. Presenting Ashes, our office pet temporarily! He will be the the Chief Entertainment Officer (CEO) during his time here. We currently have him for about 3 days now, and he is very hyperactive; running and jumping around while in the main office. He also has this tendency to chase fingers and toes and will try to bite them, which we are currently trying to put a stop to.

As with every new staff, we haze them. With a post it sized paper, we stuck it to his head for a little fun but he did not seem to bother much. This intern will be with us for another week as he assists us with our day to day operations, whether he can get things done or not is still to be seen. Here’s to hoping this guy stops biting and messing up our tables. We hope you have a good week ahead, cheers!

We have an Office/Warehouse!

A few months ago, we decided on getting an office space cum warehouse so that we could store our many inventories and be a little more productive.

Working at the bar has its advantages (Drinks, chatting with customers) but it also puts a stop to our workflow. We also say goodbye to travelling to different locations just to get extra glass wares and tools.  Now Hopscotch and us has more space to work.

We then decided to split the space into 2. 1 for the warehouse and 1 for the office. The office side will then be split into a further 3 rooms consisting of the main office, spare room and a recreational room. The main office will consist of our work space while the recreational room will be where we relax. Equipped with sofas, a tv and fridge, we might be staying in that particular room more than usual.

Warehouse wise we have set up shelves to store our equipments and most importantly glasswares, which numbers in the thousands for us. We also bought a washing machine and dryer to do cleaning of our cloths that were used for events.
